St. Cuthbert’s Way Day 6: A day of rest

When I booked my stay here at the Lindisfarne Inn, I had no idea how much I would appreciate a day of rest! And what a glorious day it has been.

I slept in and had a lovely breakfast. The sun was shining and I could see it wouldn’t last with dark clouds in the distance. I wrote in my journal, catching up on a few details I had just been too tired to write out in the last few days.

imageI  read. I had a nap (so decadent!). I tended to my blistered feet. I gave thanks for the radiator and rinsed out a few bits of clothing that dried in no time at all. I checked in at home, where my husband is making preparations for an adventure of his own. All is well.

I will be on my way again tomorrow, walking across to the island at low tide. But today I am content. This is why, in the story of creation, there is a day set aside for nothing but rest. It is a moment for my body to catch up with my heart, to count blessings, to feel safe.

Fish and chips for supper, a pint of the local Lindisfarne Ale, and early to bed. I want to be ready to receive all of the blessings that await me on the next stage of my journey.
